Principal's Message

Welcome back to school Wranglers!  We are going to have an amazing school year. :)  At VRE we believe that through collaboration with parents and community members, we can provide a safe, caring, and positive learning environment, which celebrates diversity and instills a desire for learning, while meeting the individual needs of all students.  It is our goal that through motivation and high expectations, every child will achieve personal and academic success today and for a lifetime.

I also need to go over just a few reminders about our biggest priority: the safety and security of your children.  All visitors MUST enter the school through the front office and show a valid picture ID to receive a visitor’s badge that notes what area of the building you are going to.  Staff has been instructed to stop all visitors without a badge or people in areas that are not reflected on their badge.   If you have a current volunteer badge, this may be used only when you are on campus to volunteer.   In addition, you MUST have a green car rider pass in order to pick up your child in the car rider/walker line or you must have called in or sent  a note, so the front office will issue your child a white car rider slip.  If neither of these are present, you will be asked to go to the office to show your ID and get a car rider pass before your child is released to you.  Lastly, we will not accept transportation changes after 3:00.  This is to protect your child so that he/she does not end up in the wrong dismissal line.  There will be no exceptions made for any of these policies, except in the case of an extreme emergency, approved by administration.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Free student breakfast is served until 8:00.  Our Wrangler Roundup begins at 8:05 and parents are always welcome to join us for this fun beginning to our day.  The tardy bell rings at 8:20 and dismissal begins at 3:35.  Our children learn an amazing amount of material while in class.  We don’t want students coming to school ill, but please have your child present daily, if at all possible. Students that are tardy or leave early miss out on crucial instruction and that negatively affects their academic progress.  Please limit these times to address medical issues only.  Due to excessive tardies and early outs, we have changed our policy regarding the Perfect Attendance Award.  Starting this nine weeks, a student must be present every day and have no more than 2 tardies or early outs  to qualify for the Perfect Attendance Award.  Medical excuses will be accepted and will not negatively affect eligibility for this award.  At VRE, we feel that it is important to teach children the values of timely and consistent attendance and truly earning awards.  In keeping with the spirit of these values, we will also be changing our policy for A and AB Honor Roll.  In the past a student had to have an E or S in Conduct to receive these awards.  However, although we feel that behavior plays a large role in a child getting a good education, if they have earned all A’s or all A’s and B’s, they should receive those awards.  To reward good behavior, we offer classroom and school wide awards, as well as Peacebuilder of the Month awards at the assemblies.

We want you to stay informed of all of the amazing activities we offer here at “The Ranch”, so please “like” us on Facebook, visit our website at, or follow us on Twitter.  To conserve paper and to encourage the use of technology, we will no longer be sending home the bi-monthly newsletter,  If you do not have access to a computer, please feel free to use our Parent Access Center, located in our front office.  Be on the lookout for information coming soon on our new Parent Volunteer Organization (replaces PTO).  We hope that everyone can participate in the fun and exciting activities we have planned!  We encourage all parents to come eat lunch with their students, volunteer in school, offer to help a teacher with volunteer projects that can be completed at home, and to participate in our Parent Volunteer Organization.  YOU are the key to our success.

If you have any questions or concerns, I am always available by appointment, Please contact Susan Smith, my secretary, to set up a time that we can talk uninterrupted.  I look forward to meeting all of you and I thank you for allowing me the privilege to take care of your precious children each day.

Thank you for all of your support,

Lorie Orum
